Free November Henna: A Taste of Beautiful Mauritanian Patterns

Hello my henna friends!

Three drawn hands with delicate Mauritanian henna designs

I have a style for YOU! This month’s Monthly Mehndi Mayhem introduces you to the enchanting world of Mauritanian henna—a style known for its stunning geometric patterns and bold, high-contrast designs. Originating from Mauritania in Northwest Africa, Mauritanian henna art is celebrated for its intricate linework, carefully layered patterns, and strong cultural roots. We’re excited to share this unique art style with you through our free November designs!

A Peek into Mauritanian Henna Style

Mauritanian henna is famous for its precision and detail, with designs that are traditionally applied using a tape resist technique. This method involves placing thin tape strips on the skin to create crisp, clean lines where the henna paste doesn’t touch. The result? High-contrast, beautifully detailed patterns that showcase Mauritania’s henna tradition in its most authentic form. However, you can enjoy this style just as well freehand, allowing you to experiment and make the designs your own.

Our Monthly Mehndi Mayhem download for November is an easy introduction to the rich artistry of Mauritanian henna. These patterns offer the elegance of this style henna but in a beginner-friendly format.

Note the unique use of negative space in these designs. Mauritanian henna require practice, practice, and more practice. It's also I style that I suggest using the tiniest cone opening possible to get thin, clean lines. Try rolling your own cones from our cello flats if you aren't already doing that.

Embrace New Techniques in Your Henna Art

Exploring Mauritanian henna is a wonderful way to expand your skills and bring something fresh to your practice. The sharp lines and symmetrical shapes make it ideal for artists looking to perfect their precision, and it’s a fantastic style to share with clients seeking unique, bold henna.
