How to Mix Henna for Body Art
Are you new to henna? No worries โ we've got you covered! Follow this easy, one-step recipe for fuss-free henna mixing. It's the same recipe I personally use.
Ingredients:
- 100 grams quality henna powder
- Lemon Juice (1 - 1 1/4 cups, approximately - divided)
- Sugar (none or up to 2 tablespoons, adjust for dry/humid climates)
- Equal Parts Lavender & Tea Tree Oils (1/3 - 1 oz)
Mixing Steps:
- Add henna, sugar, and essential oils in a bowl.
- Add lemon juice, achieving a thick mashed potato consistency.
- Cover with plastic wrap, ensuring the wrap touches the henna.
- Allow time for dye release (6-16 hours for ORa henna, 24-36 hours for Jamila henna with lemon juice).
- Check for dye release every 4-6 hours using a dot on the hand.
- Adjust to desired consistency with more lemon juice after dye release and mix well.
- Strain the henna if desired.
- Fill individual cones and freeze until ready to use.
If you are using water instead of lemon juice, check for dye release every 2 hours. Dye releases faster with water, but the henna also demises faster. We recommend lemon juice.

The tubes commonly found in stores with a gel like consistency are full of dangerous chemicals.... I always receive my order super fast. Would absolutely recommend to a friend and purchase again. They are not kidding when they say you can get 100รขโฌโขs of henna from this kit. I made 1/2 the bag and have enough to last for quite some time. I also bought a large carrot bag to store it in and Iรขโฌโขm glad I did, because 1/2 of the mix that I prepped filled the whole bag. Super easy to make and the henna on my hand lasted a week even with washing.

My order arrived super fast. The product is insanely good. I never dreamed i could get this deep a colour or longevity of this henna. This henna is great! This is my first batch of henna so I am having a little issue making the formula. So far it's been too hard or wet. I will keep this company in mind when I need more :)
My husband purchased these items for me along with a "Teach Yourself Henna Tattoo" book as a gift. He remembered how fascinated I was with the henna tattoo I got on vacation earlier this year. We mixed up two batches of henna paste according to two different recipes. In the end I couldn't tell much difference between the simple and more complex recipes. I've spent the entire afternoon practicing on paper and then created my first two tattoos on my husband and myself. Both turned out well--especially for my first attempts. The paste turned out smoothly and had nice consistency.
