Instructions
How to Mix Henna for Body Art
Are you new to henna? No worries – we've got you covered! Follow this easy, one-step recipe for fuss-free henna mixing. It's the same recipe I personally use.
Ingredients:
- 100 grams quality henna powder
- Lemon Juice (1 - 1 1/4 cups, approximately - divided)
- Sugar (none or up to 2 tablespoons, adjust for dry/humid climates)
- Equal Parts Lavender & Tea Tree Oils (1/3 - 1 oz)
Mixing Steps:
- Add henna, sugar, and essential oils in a bowl.
- Add lemon juice, achieving a thick mashed potato consistency.
- Cover with plastic wrap, ensuring the wrap touches the henna.
- Allow time for dye release (6-16 hours for ORa henna, 24-36 hours for Jamila henna with lemon juice).
- Check for dye release every 4-6 hours using a dot on the hand.
- Adjust to desired consistency with more lemon juice after dye release and mix well.
- Strain the henna if desired.
- Fill individual cones and freeze until ready to use.
If you are using water instead of lemon juice, check for dye release every 2 hours. Dye releases faster with water, but the henna also demises faster. We recommend lemon juice.

I really liked the reddish color my hair took. I do recommend this product. I mixed it with aloe juice and it helped with the texture of my hair, it was way smoother than other times I’ve used henna.

the henna work good in my hair
I Mixed this powder up for my hair, as well as for my hands and feet. Yielded a beautiful stain after leaving it on for 5 + hours and a very short dye release (2 ish hours). I only wish they'd had a more recent harvest, I find the smell of henna gets worse and worse with age, but it stains just as dark as the 2022 batch i made before this.

This henna powder is awesome, such a dark stain and it is nice and stringy to work with. Very smooth henna with only one straining. The henna help website listed on the card inside my package gave a great recipe and tips on different henna powders and how they differ. I will be buying this powder again in the future!

It’s been years since I used henna on my hair and I had lots of white hair, I mixed in an egg and squeezed in a whole lemon it came out amazing! All my grays turned into beautiful copper color and my hair looks healthy! I would definitely recommend this product!

I use a different formula in mixing this henna to minimize the potential for a reaction to lemon juice. (Orange extract allergy). I boil 2 cups of water with 1/3 cup sugar, add 4 to 5 black tea bags. Remove tea bags once cooled, without squeezing them. I add enough lemon juice just to get the liquid level back up to the 2 cup mark.
I know this sounds like a lot of liquid but if i am making bulk paste it works fabulously, and if i'm not I freeze the remainder in an ice cube tray and pop them out to melt as I need them for making smaller batches.
I am also scent sensitive so I use pure lavendula Agustifolia oil in my henna.
Even with changing the recipe this henna leaves a stain like no other. I applied it on my cosmetologist who wanted some body art. She said that it wouldn't last due to her hands constantly being in water.
She was amazed at how long the art lasted!
