Similar to henna, indigo is derived from the dried leaves of a plant and ground into a powder, serving as a natural dark blue dye. This dye is employed as a safe and non-damaging option for natural hair coloring, offering a variety of colors. The combination of indigo and henna produces shades ranging from reddish brown to dark brown and black. When used independently, indigo enhances the color of already dark hair.
Explore the excellence of our certified organic ORa indigo, ensuring the highest quality and purity of pure indigo (Indigo Tinctoria).

How to Mix Indigo
How to Mix Indigo
For best results, mix indigo powder with water only – avoid other liquids or additives, as they impact its dyeing effectiveness.
Mixing Steps:
- Combine indigo with warm water, aiming for a very thick yogurt consistency. Add water gradually to prevent thinning.
- Set aside for 15 minutes for dye release.
- Mix indigo paste with dye-released henna paste. the more indigo you use, the more brown the color.
Application Steps:
- Using gloves, apply the paste to clean, dry hair or freshly washed hair (WITHOUT conditioner).
- Ensure every strand is saturated and apply generously.
- Place a plastic hair cap over the hair, pressing it down to touch the paste.
- Remove any product on the skin promptly, as it may stain.
- Let the paste soak into the hair for 2-4 hours. The longer you leave it in, the richer the color.
- Rinse the paste out of your hair without using shampoo, but do use conditioner.
- Optional: Blow dry hair for 10-15 minutes to help set the color.
Important Note:
- This is not the final color of your hair. The color will oxidize over the next 1-3 days to reach its final shade.
Tips:
- The more indigo you use, the darker brown your hair will be.
- Experimentation may be needed to find your perfect shade of brown.
- For hard-to-cover grays or hair, add a teaspoon of salt for every 50 grams of indigo.
- If using hot water for indigo, ensure it's not too hot to avoid overcooking the indigo.
- Only mix what you need, as extra indigo paste can't be used later.
- Avoid using indigo if you have mold allergies.
Keep it simple and enjoy your indigo experience!
